A panorama/gazebo faced inwards, at the lowest possible spot in a quarry that is just out of order. This panorama acts like a swirl, like looking at unplugging a sink full of water. The use of stainless steel wire mesth provides a density in layers which is equal with its surrounding: millions of years in endless layers of what became limestone, are present in the semi-transparent 'walls' that create a panorama faced inwards. One could speak of an open labyrinth as the work has several ways by which one can enter. The different circular elements are placed in a way that they "suck" the spectator to the centre. Once there, it seems that this centre is empty. Because of the used transparencies and the used material a "moiré" effect can be seen. On each wall there is a bench one can sit on. The roof is made out of the same material and partially closes off the work from the sky; therefore it provides a certain intimacy. One could call the height of the work rather low than high, as it is related to the human body. The spectator is an essential part of the work, as he/she could get the feeling that he/she ends up in the middle of an implosion. Hang on to your vertigo. |
